In recognition of the brave men and women who serve our country, the Los Angeles Zoo is proud to mark the first day of L.A. FLEET WEEK with FREE admission for all active and retired U.S. military personnel and veterans on Friday, September 1, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Up to six accompanying friends and family members can receive a discount of $3 off adult and $2 off child admission. Free admission is available for one day only by presenting a valid military ID at the time of purchase on September 1 only. Service members and all visitors that day are invited to meet the US Navy EOD Robotics Team, which will be at the Zoo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer questions about their training and show off their specialized robots.
The L.A. Zoo will also celebrate INTERNATIONAL VULTURE AWARENESS DAY with a weekend of activities on Saturday, September 2, and Sunday, September 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can learn about vultures and the challenges they face in the wild at education and discovery stations, Q&As with representatives from the California Condor Recovery Program, and more. Activities include a “Scavenger Search” tour to locate all the vulture species within the Zoo and special presentations at the World of Birds Theater and Hawk Talk Stage dedicated to these magnificent, charismatic, and often misunderstood birds. Visitors can cool off in the California Condor Rescue Zone—an air-conditioned, interactive play space for children ages six and older—and view California condors in their hilltop home at the Zoo via live video feeds. The trailer for “The Condor’s Shadow,” a documentary about the California Condor Recovery Program, will screen at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. throughout the weekend in Witherbee Auditorium. Representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be on hand to answer questions about the effort to save California condors following the screenings and at their booth.
Admission to the Los Angeles Zoo is $21 for general admission (ages 13 to 61); $18 for seniors (ages 62+), and $16 for children (ages 2 to 12). No ticket is required for children under 2. Admission for Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association members is free.
The Los Angeles Zoo is located at 5333 Zoo Drive in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park at the junction of the Ventura (134) and Golden State (5) freeways. Free parking is available. For general information about the Zoo, call (323) 644-4200.
